Giovanna Guerriero, of Wakefield, died peacefully on July 17, 2017 at the age of 84. Giovanna was born in Avella, Italy on October 4, 1932 to Salvatore & Carmella Colletta. She was spent the first 34 years of her life living in Italy. She married her husband, the late Pasquale Guerriero, and had her three children in Italy before coming to the United States and eventually settling in Malden. But she never forgot her roots and made many trips back to Italy over the years. Giovanna worked as a professional seamstress for Priscilla of Boston for many years. She actually made the dresses for President Nixon's daughter's wedding. Eventually Giovanna switched professions and worked as a clock maker for Chelsea Clock for over twenty five years. The job required patience, attention to detail, and hard work; a perfect fit for Giovanna. To say she was a hard worker would be an understatement, she made sure all three of her children were able to go to college, and her generosity knew no bounds. Giovanna was known for keeping a very meticulous house, and some of her family's fondest memories were being at her home while she cooked her famous chicken cutlets. She took great pride in her cooking, particularly in her sauce. At the end of each summer, with the help of her children & grandchildren, Giovanna would spend two weeks making enough jars of sauce for the family to last an entire year. It was an annual tradition everyone looked forward to. The most important aspect of Giovanna's life was her family. She believed in keeping tight knit bonds with her family, and nothing made her happier than having a full house to cook and entertain for. She will be greatly missed. Giovanna was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale Guerriero. Loving mother of Thomas Guerriero & his wife Stephanie of Wakefield, Stefania O'Loughlin & her husband James of Melrose, and Salvatore Guerriero & his wife Christine of Middleton. Proud grandmother of Bridget, Theresa, Michelle, Emily, Valerie, Alexander, Nicholas, and Olivia. Caring sister of Antonietta Evangelista of Winthrop and the late Carmen Colletta. Visiting Hours will be held on Mon., July 24, from 4-8 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Tues., July 25, at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose.
