Gloria L. (Ross) Barker of Melrose, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center of Wakefield. She was 89 years old. Born on November 17, 1921 in Millbury, Massachusetts, a daughter to the late Hormidas & Marie (Rail) Ross, she was raised in Fall River & Chelsea and a graduate of St. Rose High School in Chelsea. Mrs. Barker was a resident of Melrose from 1959 to 1975 then lived in Wakefield for several years before moving back to Melrose in 1993. She worked for Transitron in Melrose & the Heavenly Muffins Donut Shop in Melrose for over 20 years; however she was mostly proud of being a stay at home mom. Gloria enjoyed spending time with her family & friends and loved raising her twin grandsons. Mrs. Barker was an avid reader taking many trips to the Melrose Public Library and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels. Devoted wife of the late Albert J. Barker. Loving mother of Albert J. Barker Jr. of Reading, Phyllis A. White & her husband Richard of CA & Carolyn Barker. Cherished grandmother of Jason, Chad, Ross & Christopher Barker, Joseph White, David White & Renee Frisk. Beloved great grandmother of Brian, Cody, Sean, Austyn & Elyssa. Caring sister of Lorraine Ross of FL. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, January 31st at 9AM.
