Gloria B. Umile, 79, died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Friday after a brief illness. Born in Melrose, she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Melrose High class of 1940. She was an active member of St Mary's parish, a member of the Melrose Booster's Club and an avid sports enthusiast for many years. Gloria B. ( Spadafora ) Umile was the wife of the late James J. Umile. Loving mother of Patricia A. Umile of Melrose, James J. Umile Jr. & his wife Pat of Wakefield, Richard C. Umile of NH & his wife Rose, and the late Ronald Guy Umile. Devoted grandmother of James J. III, John and Katie Umile, Tricia Lilley, Kristin Haggerty and Courtney Cook. Loving great grandmother of Jack and Brooke. Sister of Peter Spadafora of NH, Helen Hurley of Malden, Dorothy Gennetti of Wilmington, Lorraine Keyser of NH and the late William, Dominic, Bernard and Louis Spadafora Jr. Sister- in- law of Ann Figelski of Malden. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W Foster St, Melrose, on Mon Aug 27 at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, corner of Myrtle & Herbert Sts, Melrose at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sun 4 - 8 PM and Mon 9 - 10:30 AM.
