Grace R. (Scarpa) Brangiforte Hart passed away at Bear Hill Nursing Home in Stoneham on December 24, 2013. She was born in Boston on June 14, 1920 to the late Domenic & Antonetta (Nappa) Scarpa, she was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. A lifelong resident of Melrose, Grace worked in the office for the family business Eagle Can, worked as a medical assistant for a local dentist for 5 years, at the Wyoming Deli for 2 1/2 years and as a buyer for the Dolan Jenner a fiber optics manufacturing company for 10 years. Mrs. Hart was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Melrose where she was a Deaconess at church, a Sunday school teacher, in the Circle 5 group and was a parish visitor for the church. Grace loved spending summers with her large extended family in Barnstead, NH where she has been going since 1938. She also enjoyed spending time in Hamilton, MA, was a member of the Melrose Council on Aging, AARP and enjoyed going to the Milano Center in Melrose. Mrs. Hart was a proud member of the Women's Republican Club, worked on numerous campaigns for mayors and governors, including the current mayor of Melrose Rob Dolan. Grace was the matriarch of the Hart & Scarpa families and was the glue that kept everyone together. She was the beloved wife of the late Rocco Brangiforte who was shot down in France during WWII and the late Burton P. Hart whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Loving mother of Warren P. Hart & his wife Sharon of Rochester, NH, Lisa A. Gray & her husband Robert of Windham, NH and Lori V. Bidgood & her husband Peter of Melrose. Devoted grandmother of James Gray & his wife Bridget, Jennifer Morrissette & her husband Matthew, Mary Bidgood & Krissy Gray. Great grandmother of Jeffrey & Ashley Gray. Sister of the late Frank, Jennie, Louis, John & Nicholas Scarpa, Anne Kraus and Josephine Adams. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Family & friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sunday, December 29th from 2:00-6:00PM and again on Monday morning at 10:00AM before processing to the First Congregational Church, 121 . Foster St. for a funeral service at 11AM. Interment will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 121 W.
