Harold W. "Uncle Red" Humphrey passed away at his home in Melrose, on June 21, 2011. He was 100 years of age. He was born in East Boston on December 20, 1910 to the late Frank & Ida (Lottie) Humphrey. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School. Harold bought his home in Melrose in 1930 and has been a resident ever since. Mr. Humphrey worked for the WPA projects in Melrose and assisted in building Slayton Tower at Mt. Hood Golf Course in Melrose. He served his country proudly during WWII serving in the US Army for several years. After his discharge he worked as an electrician for over 30 years, 20 of those years for Kaplan Furniture Company in Cambridge. Harold enjoyed working in his rose garden, motorcycles, farming, camping, fishing and boating. He was a member of the Orient Heights Yacht Club in East Boston for many years. Mr. Humphrey was the brother of the late Mildred, Helen, Orra, Charlie, Frank, David, Walter & Gladys. Uncle of Ann & Steve Berghaus and Gladys & Frank Perkins. Great uncle of Milo Jr. & Christine Bridgeford of Melrose. Great great uncle of Don & Cyndi Freitas of Melrose, Milo III, Henry William and Catherine Grace Bridgeford. Great great great uncle of Michelle Catherine Lyons, Matthew Joseph Freitas and Logan Anthony Bridgeford. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St. Melrose, on Thursday, June 23rd at 11AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend.
