Hazel M. (Fall) Lucas Burbank passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, on February 19, 2006, she was 93. Hazel was born in Brookline, raised in Melrose and has been a lifelong resident of Melrose. In 1942 Hazel worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard driving a forklift, loading jeeps on ships for shipment overseas and then for Automatic Radio building radar used in WWII. Mrs. Burbank worked for the Transitron Company in Melrose for a few years and then as an inspector for National Radio Company in Melrose for over 28 years. Hazel lost her first husband at a young age while they were in the middle of building their home, but that didnt stop her. Mrs. Burbank finished the house herself, laying down hardwood floors, doing finished carpentry, hanging sheet rock and what ever else needed to be done. She built the walls outside her home, built the front porch and enjoyed working on her home throughout the years. Hazel was the beloved wife of the late William J. Burbank. Loving mother of Loretta Roddy & her husband Robert, Keith Higgins all of Melrose, William T. Burbank & his wife Pietrina of Revere and the late Marjorie & Matthew Lucas. Sister of the late Roy Fall, Nina Foss, Eleanor Hoyt, Tillie Hoyt & Barbara Lowe. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday Feb. 23rd, at 10:30AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
