Helen A. (Schiorring) Braid passed away at the Hammersmith House in Saugus on Sunday, January 17th at the age of 84. Helen was born in Medford to the late Carl & Elisabeth (Underthun) Schiorring. She was raised in Saugus, graduated from Saugus High School in 1943 and Melrose-Wakefield School of Nursing in 1946. Mrs. Braid was a registered nurse and worked as a nursing supervisor at Union Hospital in Lynn from 1968 to 1988. Helen was a lifelong resident of Saugus, was a patient advocate for nursing homes and was ombudsman for Gliss in Lynn. Mrs. Braid enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing, cooking and loved to travel. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to Robert M. Braid(Doorman @ Gately Funeral Home). Loving mother of Robert S. Braid and his wife Anne Marie of Wilmington. Cherished grandmother of Alicia Braid of FL & Julie Braid of Wilmington. Sister of Ruth Bennett of Idaho. A funeral service will held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs. January 21st at 11:30AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. from 3:007:00PM. Interment will be private.
