Helen I. (Winslow) Cadigan, of Melrose, passed away on March 5, 2016 at the age of 90. Helen was born in Boston on November 22, 1925 to Leon and Mary (Fay) Winslow. She was brought up in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School, and attended St. Mary's High School. Helen later married John Cadigan and the two settled down in Malden to raise their five children. Helen & John later moved to Melrose, and were members of the St. Mary's Parish. She was a longtime member of the St. Mary's Ladies Sodality, the St. Mary's Alter Society, and the "Winni Club". Helen was very involved with the Church, over the years she made hundreds of sets of Rosary Beads, as well as scapulas, and Baptismal Bibs. She also enjoyed sitting quietly and knitting, crocheting, and number painting. She also made all of the kids afghans. Helen was a woman who did things her own way, she provided stability for her children while growing up and cared for them all deeply. She was the beloved wife of the late John D. Cadigan. Loving mother of Eileen M. Glinner & her husband Mark of Wilmington, Joan L. Purdy & her husband Charles of Webster, John J. Cadigan & his wife Mary Kay of Nashua, Robert T. Cadigan & his wife Lisa of Medford, and Mary C. Garneau & her husband James of NC. Caring sister of Catherine Murphy of Melrose, Robert Winslow of Nevada, and the late Paul Winslow, Leonard Winslow, Marie Kinsella, Mark Winslow, & Marguerite Fachan. Cherished grandmother of twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4-8PM at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Melrose, at 10:30 AM. Entombment at the Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
