Helen M. (Niland ) Fennell, 60, died at Beth Isreal Hospital Boston friday after a brief illness. Born and raised in Boston, she was baptized in St Patrick Church Roxbury and graduated from St Patrick High School Class of 1959. She lived in Dorchester for 8 years prior to moving to Melrose in 1969. Helen was an active parishioner of St Mary's Church and a supervisor at Melrose Middle School cafeteria for the past 14 years. Helen was the beloved wife of Leo P. Fennell. Mother of Sheila M. Fennell of Stoneham, Leo M. Fennell & his wife MaryEllen of Melrose, Julie Ann Sweeney & her husband Patrick of Boston & Newport RI, and the late Michael Patrick Fennell. Daughter of the late Patrick T. and Helen ( O'Connor ) Niland. Beloved niece of Eamon & Annie Madden of Athenry, Galway, Ireland. Beloved sister of Patricia Mehigan of Somerville, John Niland& his wife Frances of Halifax, MA, George Niland of So.Weymouth, Richard Niland & his wife Ann of Milton, Estelle Freeburger & her husband John of Rochester MN., Mary Donovan & her husband William of Wakefield, Wiliam Niland & his wife Judith of Plymouth, Joan Berube & her husband Robert of Chelmsford, Francis Niland of Stoneham and the late Thomas and Robert Niland. Cherished grandmother of Shay and Michael Fennell of Melrose. Sister-in-law of Marion Connolly & her husband Martin of W Roxbury, Mary Villa & her husband Joseph of Weymouth Landing, Linda Fennell & her husband William of W. Roxburyand Paul Fennell of W. Roxbury. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose on Tuesday July 9 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church corner of Herbert & Myrtle Sts, Melrose at 9 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 PM. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
