Helen M. (Doherty) Green of Melrose went home to God at the Bear Hill Nursing Center of Wakefield on Saturday, March 9, 2013. She was 92 years old. Born on June 18, 1920 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, she was raised in Melrose and a graduate of St. Mary's Grammar & St. Mary's High School. A lifelong resident of Melrose, she was a member of St. Mary's Church, Xaverian Brothers Guild, Holy Child Alumni but she was most involved with the Ladies Sodality of St. Mary's Church. She loved people, talking and her favorite phrase was "That's Lovely!" Mrs. Green was the devoted wife of the late Joseph J. Green, with whom they shared 53 years of marriage before he passed in 1997. She was the loving mother of Brother Robert J. Green, C.F.X. of Danvers & Susan E. Shiner & her husband Charles of Melrose. Cherished Nana of Nicole Shaw & her husband Michael of Saugus & Kevin Shiner & his wife Patricia of Peabody. Great Nana of Ashley E. & Andrew M. Shaw & Kevin C. & Juli A. Shiner. Caring sister of the late Virginia A. Thorner & the late Robert W. "Doc' Doherty & his wife Dolores of Melrose. Aunt Honey of Daniel E. Doherty & his companion Jane Abruzzese of Peabody. Also survived by many cousins & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, March 12th at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday from 3-7PM.
