Helen Theresa (Quinn) Melcher passed away on January 1, 2017 at the age of 87. She was born in Somerville on April 28, 1929 to the late Edmond & Julia (Carey) Quinn. Helen was raised in Medford, graduate from Medford High School, Class of 1945, lived in Medford most of her life, over 20 years on Cape Cod and the last 4 years in Melrose. Mrs. Melcher started out working for the Registry of Motor Vehicles for the State of Massachusetts and then in telecommunications at Wrentham Sate Penitentiary, for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and then at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford for many years, retiring at the age of 70. Helen loved the ocean and the beaches of Cape Cod. She enjoyed being busy with work and family and truly enjoyed traveling around to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Melcher was the loving mother of Cynthia Antonangeli & her husband Mark, Timothy Melcher, Judy Carbone & Stephanie Melcher. Proud grandmother of Jenna, Erica, Tim Jr., Stephen, Mallory, Lisa, Laura & Timothy. Also survived by many great grandchildren,. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5:00-8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be private. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to a charity of your choice.
