Helen M. (Connor) Murphy, age 87, died on Sunday, February 16, 2014. Helen was born on April 25, 1926 to the late Thomas L. and Lenora M. (Doonan) Connor. She was raised in Malden and graduated from Girls Catholic High School. She worked at the Cuticura Soap Factory and the Telephone Company for many years. She held other various jobs along the way including making doll dresses for Geraldine Morello's doll business where the two friends shared much laughter and family and friends were sometimes the lucky recipients of these beautiful dolls. Mrs. Murphy and her husband John raised their family in Melrose where they greatly enjoyed being part of the community and their church, St. Mary's. Helen was a tireless volunteer at the church where she was a member of the Tuesday Ladies Group and St. Mary's Lady's Sodality. She was also a supporter of the Holy Name Society. She was involved in CYO baseball which prompted her to invent a baseball equipment storage device for which she obtained a U.S. patent in 1974. Mrs. Murphy will be remembered for her kind and caring ways and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Helen was the loving wife of 58 years to the late John J. Murphy who died in 2011, she was the devoted mother of Thomas P. and Joseph A. Murphy of Melrose; Mary A. Bragel and her husband James of Derry, NH; Theresa B. LeBrun and her husband Kevin of Stoneham; William G. Murphy and his wife Lynn of Derry, NH; Judith H. Kossuth and her husband John of Mendon; Annette J. Murphy and her husband Tim of Chelmsford; and the late John F. and Andrew J. Murphy. She was the wonderful grandmother of Andrew, Daniel and Michael LeBrun, Cassandra Allder, Joshua and Jacob Murphy, and Melanie, John and Erin Kossuth. She was the beloved sister of Barbara McGonagle and the late Sally,Thomas and Gail Connor and Roberta Fahey, she is also survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and many faithful friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, February 20th at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
