Helen E. (Nee) Wright passed away at Brigham & Women's Hospital on Monday, February 15, 2010. She was 78 years of age. Mrs. Wright was born in Milford, MA, raised in Maynard, graduated from Maynard High School in 1949 and then from the College of Our Lady of The Elms in Chicopee. Helen moved to Melrose in 1961 and has been a resident ever since. Mrs. Wright worked as a chemist at the New England Medical Center in Boston for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. Helen was a proud member of the Democratic City Committee, enjoyed politics and was involved in numerous political campaigns; the John F. Kennedy campaign, Dukakis campaign as well as several local campaigns. She was a member of the Elections Committee for several years and worked the polls in Melrose on Election Day. Mrs. Wright loved her trips to Cape Cod, Montreal & Quebec and was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church. Helen was the wife of 55 years to Edmund F. Wright. Mother of Julie A. McLaughlin & her husband Daniel, Edmund F. Wright Jr. & his wife Janet, Gerald J. Wright & his wife Pamela all of Andover. Sister of Shelia Harris of Worcester. Grandmother of Catherine, Daniel, Adam, Spencer, Thomas, Sarah & Allison. Aunt of Jennifer Rice, David Harris & Michael Harris. Also survived by several grand nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, Feb. 19th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in Helen's memory at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thurs. from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
