Hilda W. (Baumann) Berninger of Melrose, died on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Wingate at Reading Nursing Home. She was 94 years old. Born on August 20, 1915 in Canada to the late William F. & Mabel C. (Weldon) Baumann, she moved to the United States as a child. She was raised, schooled and lived most of her life in Melrose. Hilda was a wonderful mother and house keeper. She was a member of the Melrose Women's Club, Melrose Garden Club and the First Baptist Church of Reading. She enjoyed crafts, family, loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, the beach, her home and her Church. Mrs. Berninger retired to Cape Cod 23 years ago. She was the devoted wife of the late George V. Berninger, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Marilyn H. Abbott of Stoneham, Diane M. Whitehouse & her husband Robert of Smyrna, Delaware & Judith A. Hickman & her husband Kenneth of LaCenter, Washington. Cherished grandmother of Lisa Abbott, James Whitehouse, Peter Whitehouse & his wife Jennifer & Mark Whitehouse & his wife Tiffany, Roger Hickman & his wife Lori & Lois Ann Beck & her husband Jerry. Great grandmother of Kade Evans, Brycen & Rory Whitehouse, Sarah Wilson, Gregory & Matthew Hickman & David & Karl Beck. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
