Ned Caruso (1930 2010) Ignazio F. "Ned" Caruso passed away peacefully at home in Malden, on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the age of 80. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Derine T. (Masho) Caruso. Loving father of Carl Caruso and his wife Elisa of Melrose, Paul Caruso and his wife Carolyn of Saugus, Suzanne R. Caruso-Collins and her husband Robert of Lynnfield, Lisa Caruso-Reinold of Melrose and Andrea D. Fountain and her husband Richard of Melrose. Proud grandfather to fourteen grandchildren: Crystal Caruso, Christina Caruso, Michele Caruso, Melissa Caruso, Juliana Reinold, Gina Caruso, Robert Reinold, Robert Collins III, Richard Fountain III, Carli Caruso, Meaghan Collins, Amanda Fountain, Julia Fountain, and Rachel Collins. Most cherished brother of the late Carmelo V. Caruso and Rose M. Costantino. He is also survived by many dedicated nieces, nephews and longtime friends. Ignazio was born in East Boston on January 4, 1930 as the youngest son to Natale and Catharina (Arcana) Caruso, who both emigrated from Sicily, Italy. Ned's entrepreneurial spirit became evident at the young age of ten. With supplies in hand, he would spend Saturdays shining shoes on the ferry boat that ran from East Boston to the North End. This was the start of a long and successful career. Ned graduated from Boston English High School after which he enlisted in the US Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his military service, Ned attended Bentley University where he graduated with honors in 1958. Ned's accomplishments were many. At Gum Products of East Boston, he was promoted from Clerk to President. He was a member of the board of directors of Moxie Industries, President/Owner of "Paper Works" in the Prudential Center, Boston, and was a former member of the Algonquin Club, Boston. Ned was also a philanthropist. He generously gave his time and was proudly recognized for his efforts to revitalize the East Boston Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the President of the Kiwanis Club. Ned's successful career lasted until he retired from the IRS, Andover, MA. Ned's greatest accomplishment will always be the dedication and love he bestowed on his wife, family and friends. Funeral arrangements by Gately Funeral Home, 79 W.
