Obituary

Ines Marie Filadoro of Melrose died peacefully on June 10, 2006. She was 93 Born in Dorchester, October 29, 1912, daughter of the late Cesare and Marta (Martinelli) Bernasconi, she was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1930. After graduation, she worked for many years at Howes Brothers, a leather company. Pre World War II, she took a First Aid course at Harvard University where she met Louis Filadoro to whom she was married for 53 years. Primarily a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Filadoro began her longstanding commitment to volunteerism at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in 1967. With few exceptions, every Wednesday, she whirled around the hospital, her little feet tapping out the many steps it took for her to carry out deliveries, visit the sick, or make some patient or hospital employee happier for having crossed paths with The Wednesday Lady (as she became known) and her uplifting words and ways. It is no wonder, therefore, that The Rotary Club of Melrose named her Volunteer of the Year in 1999. Her other family consisted of the residents of the Melrose Towers condominium complex where she made her home beginning in 1976. There Mrs. Filadoro demonstrated her fondness for and concern for her neighbors in many ways: by writing and hand delivering greeting cards, by sharing tempting foods she had prepared, by picking up mail and packages for vacationing friends. She did all these things and more for one reason: she derived joy from doing for others. And, as age began to take a toll on Mrs. Filadoros ability to remain independent, some of her most loyal friends, the Angels of Melrose Towers, came to her aid with kindness and compassion. Mrs. Filadoro is survived by her loving children, Linda Davidson and her husband Barry of Boston; by twin grandsons of whom she was so very proud: Thomas A. Davidson of New York City and Scott R. Davidson and his wife Lisa of Old Greenwich, CT; by cherished great-grandchildren, Ashley and Connor; and by the last of her siblings, Mari Schmidt of Palm Desert, CA. Funeral services and interment were private. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, on Friday June 16th, at 10AM. Friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in Iness name may be made to the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Development Fund, 585 Lebanon St. Melrose, 02176. Arrangements by Gately Funeral Home Melrose.
