Irene L. (Ciampa) Houten, of Saugus, passed away surrounded by family on December 1, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born in Boston, MA on November 25, 1931 to Joseph & Louise (Buonapane) Ciampa. She was raised in East Boston and graduated from Roxbury High School of Practical Arts.
Following graduation, Irene worked at New England Telephone Company and Polaroid Corporation. She retired from the Boston Postal Service. Irene and her husband raised their family in Revere and finally settled in Saugus. She loved spending time with her family, cooking them meals and forever trying new recipes. Her artistic skills shine in the many beautiful creations her family continues to treasure. She is fondly remembered as a kind, loving nurturing grandmother.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Vincent G. Houten for 52 years. Cherished mother of Loraine Lori Bonia of NH, Joyce Murray of Saugus, Philip Houten of Saugus, Yvonne Lentini of Revere, Carolyn McElligott of Melrose, Mary Houten of Saugus and the late Janet M. Davis. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose, on Friday, December 10th, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Irene's memory to Disabled American Veterans at dav.org.
