Irene J. (Daly) Spinney, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Feb. 8, 2008 at the age of 85. Irene was born in Malden, raised in Melrose and attended Melrose Schools. She worked as a Sterilization Technician at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital for over 15 years until her retirement in 1993. Irene lived in Melrose for the past 64 years and was an avid sports fan, especially loving her Patriots, Bruins and the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed spending time during the summer in Bath, ME and always had a great sense of humor. Irene loved her cats, was very independent and was always joking and having fun. She enjoyed traveling and most of all spending time with her family. Irene was the beloved wife of the late George W. Spinney. Loving mother of Sandra J. (Spinney) Hunt & her husband Thomas and Richard B. Spinney, all of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Lori-Anne, Stephen, Kristin, Nichole, Renee and Jeffrey. Caring great grandmother of Allison, Kaitlin, Connor, Emily, Kendall and Tommy. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday Feb 12th at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-8PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MSPCA Angel Memorial Medical Center 350 S.
