James Daniel Browne Age 95, of Melrose, formerly of Arlington, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2017. Devoted son of the late Patrick J. and Margaret T. (Buckley) Browne. Beloved husband of Patricia M. (Lynch) Browne. Cherished father of Kathleen Walsh and her husband Stephen of Topsfield, Patricia Kramer and her husband Kenneth of Sanford, ME, Charlene Walsh and her husband Dennis of Middleton, James Browne and his late wife Marcia of Wakefield, Jeanne Connolly and her husband Edward of Charlestown, Stephen Browne and his wife Elizabeth of Georgetown, and the late Maureen Glennon and her late husband John. Proud grandfather and great grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Supportive older brother to the late Richard, John, Joseph and Edward Browne. Also survived by his many, many friends and his extended family both here and in Ireland. Jim was born and raised in Arlington to loving parents who had emigrated from Ireland. He was a graduate of St. Agnes School and Arlington High School. He was a top student and a wonderful athlete, playing hockey and baseball. He proudly served his country in World War II with the United States Navy. After the war he went on to graduate from Bentley College. He spent his career, spanning forty years, working as a securities trader with the firms of Lee Higginson, White Weld and Merrill Lynch. He married the love of his life, Patricia Lynch from Cambridge, on September 14, 1947 at St. Paul's Church in Cambridge and they shared seventy wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with seven children, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was a supportive and nurturing father and grandfather to all his children and grandchildren. He was an integral part of all of their lives and never missed an important event or activity. He loved them all dearly and unconditionally. A visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street, Melrose, MA on Friday June 23, 2017 from 4 to 8PM. Funeral from the funeral home on Saturday morning, June 24 at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, at 10AM. Burial will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
