James E. Cabral “Cubba”, a resident of Malden, passed away suddenly at the age of 59. 

Jimmy was a former resident of Melrose and graduated from the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School in 1984. He was the lead splicer at National Grid, where he worked for over 35 years. Jimmy was the loving brother to his sister Kate Leonard of Stoneham (husband Steven Leonard), proud uncle to his niece Samantha, and nephew Bryce, and stepfather to Elizabeth Bennett (fiancé Noah Sabatula). He is predeceased by his mother Joan M. Cabral and father Edward J. Cabral.

 Jimmy was an active member of the Elks, Irish American Club, and the local Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA). He enjoyed watching the Patriots and was well known for kind heart and generosity. He was always the first to donate or help raise money for any charity. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice. 

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, June 25, 2026,from 4:00PM-7:00PM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 7:00PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
