James Leonard Calt, 72 of Wakefield died Monday, July 28, 2026 at Tufts Medical Center, Boston Ma.

He was born on November 10, 1953 in Melrose to Thomas Joseph Calt and Virginia (Bauer) Calt.

He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1971 and then attended Northeastern University, graduating in 76.

Jim who never married, was devoted to his family. He and his parents traveled to many places in the US, Canada and Europe. In later years he provided assistance to his aging and infirm aunts, uncles and parents for many years.

He was bigger than life who loved spending many trips to Maine, from Kittery to Boothbay. In fact in later years he would spend approximately 1 week a month in the Portland area, visiting many friends in the area. He loved good food and his margarettas. He loved a good story or joke and particularly enjoyed his brother-in-laws humor.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Calt-Dooley and her husband Richard “Ted” Dooley of Windham, NH

Donations may be made in his memory to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, MA 01880

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., in Melrose on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 4:00PM-7:00PM. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Stoneham.
