James R. Carrabis, of Melrose, died at the Glenridge Nursing Care Center in Medford on Oct. 14, 2008 at the age of 95. James was born in Italy and moved to America at 2 years of age. He lived in the North End for a short time before moving to Everett, where a graduated from Everett Vocational School. Jim resided in Melrose for most of his adult life and worked as a Master Plumber for Ferris & Mahoney Plumbing Company in Boston & Lappin Bros. in Malden for many years. James enjoyed traveling extensively to Hawaii, Italy and also cross country. He loved woodworking, gardening and even built his own home. Jim was an honorary member of the VFW in Saugus and a member of the Local 12 Plumber's Union for over 60 years. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Catherine M. (Pelaggi)Carrabis for 69 years. Loving father of Dr. William J. Carrabis & his companion Patricia Francis of Norwood and Frances E. Kelliher & her husband Kevin of Reading. Caring brother of Joseph Carrabis of Manchester, Anna Infurna & her husband Louis of Melrose, John Carrabis of Saugus, Florence Gagliardi of Billerica Alfred Carrabis of Lowell and the late Mary DeLeo, Carmilla Barrasso, Anthony Carrabis & Lillian Riley. Cherished grandfather of Steven M. Carrabis of CA, Linda A. Carrabis of FL, Sharon E. Caponegro & her husband Frank of NY, Laura-Jean Hutchins of Milford, William M. Carrabis & his wife Cathleen of Medfield, Jamie L. Carrabis of Waltham, James T. Kelliher of Marblehead, Christopher D. Kelliher & his wife Sherese of SD, Paula L. Antonevich & her husband Russell of Lexington and the late Jennifer L. Morrison. Brother in law of Josephine F. Amoroso of Melrose. Also survived by 12 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday Oct. 16th from 4-8PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Family & friends will be gathering at the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose on Friday morning from 10-10:45AM. A graveside service will follow at the Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose at 11AM.
