James S. Cohen passed away at Lahey Clinic in Burlington on February 8, 2016. He was 81 years of age. James was born in Boston on August 30, 1934 to the late Ira & Arlene (Akers) Cohen, was raised in Allston and Dorchester and graduated from Boston Trade School. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Congregational Retirement Homes in Melrose for over 20 years and had previously worked in sales and had owned the Domestic Care Company. Jim loved fishing fresh water and saltwater, he enjoyed traveling to the Cape Cod Canal and Plum Island early in the morning for striper fishing. Mr. Cohen loved the outdoors and going to his camp in North Berwick, Maine with his buddies. He always had a project going, enjoyed working around his home but most of all he loved spending time with his "Doll". James was the beloved husband of 30 years to Dolores C. (Salvatore) DeChristopher Cohen. Loving father of Jeffrey Cohen & his wife Nancy of Rowley and the late James S. Cohen Jr. Caring step-father of Susan Davis of Gloucester, Frank DeChristopher Jr. of Andover, John DeChristopher of Scituate & Matthew DeChristopher of North Reading. Brother of Dorothea Cohen and the late George & Harold Cohen. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 10:00AM-12:00PM with a funeral service at noontime. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
