James E. Jimmy Grover passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, on December 17, 2007. He was 80 years of age. Jimmy was born in Saugus, raised in Everett, Malden & Melrose, attended Melrose Schools and entered the service in 1944. He served in the US Navy during WWII from Dec. 7, 1944 to July 11, 1946. After returning from the service he started working for the City of Melrose. Mr. Grover was a mechanic, head mechanic, Director of Public Works and Superintendent for a short time throughout his 42-year career, retiring in 1987. Jimmy was a hard worker, when his children were young he worked part-time for D.J. Dinardi Contractors, operating equipment for 10 years. Mr. Grover had a great sense of humor, loved being with his family, working in his yard and tending to his garden. Jimmy was lifelong resident of Melrose who was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his trips to NH, Maine, Florida & Bermuda. Loving husband of Joan F. (Manganaro) Grover. Devoted father of Robert Grover & his wife Donna and Carolyn Cohan & her husband David all of Melrose. Beloved grandfather of Michael Grover & his wife Sandra of Wakefield and Lisa Grover & her husband Robert Ford of Stoneham. Great grandfather of James, Thomas, Nathan & Brady. Brother of Fred Grover of Lynn, June Noel, Paul Grover & Phyllis Mattucci all of Melrose. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, family & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday Dec. 21st at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8PM.
