James L. Hanley, of Melrose, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on October 9, 2015 at the age of 74. Jim was born & raised in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Boston English High School. He resided in Everett for 8 years and the past 12 years in Melrose. Jim worked as an Auditor for Sears & Roebuck in Boston and Dorn Transportation in Brighton for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed reading, computers, music and traveling to Ireland. Jim was a people person and loved spending time with his cats. Jim was the loving son of the late John & Margaret (Noonan) Hanley. Caring brother of Paul F. Hanley of Melrose and the late Mary T. (Hanley) McDermott & John J. Hanley. Also survived by several nephews. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, Oct. 14th from 9:30-10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
