James J. Jim Murphy of Melrose, passed away Sunday, March 19th 2006, at the Dexter House Nursing Home of Malden, he was 79. Born in Lakewood, Ohio to the late Edward & Josephine (Coupale) Murphy, Jim moved to Massachusetts at the age of 4. He was raised in a lot of different towns but mostly Malden & Everett. He had lived in Melrose since 1952. He attended Everett High School & later received his GED. Jim was a Corporal in the United States Marines Corp & served during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. Mr. Murphy was an active member of the Melrose DAV Chapter 120, serving as past commander & was also the past president of the Melrose Veterans Club. Jim was employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Bostons Back Bay for 11 years & then owned Singer Auto Sales of Woburn until he retired in 1991. Husband of Ann T. Nancy (Shea) Murphy with whom they shared 54 years of marriage. Loving father of Patricia A. Patterson & her husband Frank of Melrose. Grandfather of Amanda J. & Daniel J. Patterson, both of Melrose. Brother of Virginia Kincaid of Wilmington & the late Edward & Leo Murphy. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wed., March 22nd at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St., Melrose, at 9AM. Visiting hours Tues.4-7Pm.
