Porter, James D., June 24, 2013. Jim, a good man, died peacefully at his home in Melrose surrounded by his loving family and best friend. Jim was the beloved husband of Ellen (Mulcahy) Porter, and the loving father of James Michael Porter. Dear brother of Gail (Porter) Tighe and her husband James, and the late Robert Porter. Devoted uncle of Kathryn (Porter) McLaughlin, Caitlin and Alison McIntyre. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Dear brother-in-law of Anne Mulcahy McIntyre and her husband Richard, Kevin Mulcahy and his wife Patricia, Stephen Mulcahy and his wife Alice, and Philip Mulcahy and his wife Dianne. Best friend and business partner of Brian P. Hogan. Jim was the rhythm guitarist for the Pipeline Band and worked for many years at General Electric in Lynn. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, June 29th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to Granara-Skerry trust for Pancreatic Cancer research and sent to 20 Butler St., Medford, MA 02176.
