Jane Elizabeth (Tiernan) McDonough of Melrose, formerly of Everett, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 at the age of 60. Born & raised in Everett, MA to the late Harold & Anna (Purcell) Tiernan, Jane graduated from Matignon High School, class of 1964. She received her under graduate from Regis College in 1968 and her Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts of Boston. Mrs. McDonough worked as a schoolteacher at Immaculate Conception of Malden for 9 years and then as a social worker for the elderly at the St. Stephens Towers of Lynn. She lived in Melrose since 1975 and was a member of St. Marys Church of Melrose & the North Shore Irish Association. Jane won the 1964 Irish American Associates essay contest with an essay entitled What John F. Kennedy meant to me. She was also the long time writer of the North Shore I- A's newsletter. She loved her 6 children and her 33 years of marriage to Michael J. McDonough, formerly of Carraroe, Co. Galway, Ireland. She was the loving mother of Martin of N.Y, N.Y, Michael & his wife Rhonda of Andover, John & his wife Linda of Winchester, Patrick & his wife Patricia of Stoneham, Matthew of Melrose, & Anna Marie also of Melrose. Grandmother of Michael, Margaret, Carla, Erin, Luke, Sarah, and Jack. Sister of William Tiernan of CA., Catherine Galgon of PA, Robert Tiernan of Stoneham, and Ann Tiernan of NC. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wed., Nov. 29th at 10AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church Herbert St. Melrose at 11AM. Family & friends respectively invited. Visiting hours are Mon. Nov.27th 2-4&7-9PM and also Tues. Nov. 28th from 2-4& 6-9PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
