Janice M. Murphy passed away at the Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peabody on January 30, 2012. She was 77 years of age. Janice was born in Boston, raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Melrose in 1953 and then from Emanuel College in Boston, Class of 1957. Miss Murphy continued to educate herself throughout her life, received a Masters from Northeastern in 1979 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in 1988. Janice worked in administration for Emanuel College until her retirement and continued her close ties with Emanuel College thru the alumni association. She had a strong catholic faith and was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose. Miss Murphy enjoyed traveling to Ireland with her family, like the symphony and taking trips to Newport, R.I. Janice was the daughter of the late Dr. George Murphy & Eileen (Skeffington) Murphy. Sister of George Murphy & his wife Joanne of Peabody and the late Elaine B. Canole & her late husband Francis. Aunt of Phillip E. & Mary Ellen Murphy of Acton, Laura J. Murphy of Peabody, Paul V. Murphy of N. Andover, Ross R. Murphy of Danvers, Julieann M. Murphy of Lynn, Mark E. Murphy of Peabody, Robert J. Murphy of Boston and Sean G. P. & Mary Murphy of N. Andover. Great aunt of Ian, Erin & Emily, Kara & Benjamin, Meghan & Jack. Also survived by many loving cousins and caring friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, February 4th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2:00-6:00PM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
