Janice A. (Young) Murphy died at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, on March 10, 2006, she was 66. Janice was born and raised in Medford, graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1957 and was a resident of Medford for many years. She lived in Somerville for a few years, Melrose for 35 years and at Brooksby Village in Peabody for the past year and a half. Besides raising her family, Janice worked as a bookkeeper, accountant & office manager at the Melrose YMCA for 5 years, retiring in 1999. Before the Melrose YMCA, Janice worked as the assistant director of the Salem Chamber of Commerce for 4 years and had previously worked at the Melrose Day Care Center for over 10 years. Mrs. Murphy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her family always came first. Janice was the beloved wife of John P. Murphy. Loving mother of Elizabeth A. Connelly & her husband Robert of Medford, John P. Murphy Jr. & his wife Cheryl, Pamela J. Veerman & her husband Richard all of Wakefield, Cynthia J. Morris & her husband Robert of Exeter, NH, Allyson M. Wyner & her husband Ronald of Groveland and Brian F. Murphy & his wife Amy of Millis. Loving sister of Frederick Young & his wife Ruth of Weymouth, John Young & his wife Linda of Medford and Donald Young & his wife Judy of Methuen. Devoted grandmother of Robert & Patrick Connelly, Ashlee & Hailey Murphy, Madison, Samuel, Camryn & Tyler Veerman, Zachary, Siobhan, Olivia & Gretchen Morris, Leah, Julia & Anna Wyner, Shannon & Carter Murphy. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday March 13th, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM. Memorial contributions may be made in Janices name to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St. Danvers 01923. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. A memorial service at Brooksby Village will be held at a later date.
