Obituary

Jason Christian Brown Turley passed away suddenly at his home in Malden on December 7, 2023. He was 57 years old.

Jason was born February 6, 1966, in Boston, MA, the second child and only son to Brian and Ann-Marie Turley of Melrose. He was educated at Melrose High School and the University of Maine at Orono. While at UMO, he took pride in his membership in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, serving as Treasurer. After college Jason was a bit of a Renaissance man, venturing through various trades, including work at a lumber mill in Maine, land development and sales in Washington, and even aboard a fish processing boat in Alaska. Eventually, he found his vocation in the dental field, excelling in building and managing dental practices and serving as Chief Operating Officer for several practices.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Jason's true passion lay in coaching youth football. Over his 22-year coaching career, he earned Coach of the year honors four times and led his teams to an outstanding 15 league titles, with 11 of those seasons culminating in undefeated victories. He was a long-time coach and board member for Melrose Youth Football, where his dedication helped establish a Melrose Pop Warner dynasty. Additionally, he spent nine influential years with the Merrimack Cardinals program, leaving an indelible mark as head coach and board member. He often said that he "bled Cardinal red." He also coached the Brookline JP Patriots. Jason's coaching philosophy centered on lifelong mentorship. He believed that a good coach never stops coaching. He always reminded his players that he was their coach for life, guiding many of his players into adulthood.

Jason was a loyal and incomparable friend. He was a quick wit and a raconteur of the highest order, effortlessly commanding attention wherever he went. He loved watching sports, indulging in movies, trivia, occasional trips to the casino and belting out tunes from the 70's and 80's - Chaka Khan! However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his children, Ryan and Aubree. Coaching his son Ryan, fulfilled his dream and witnessing Ryan's success on and off the field, brought him immeasurable pride. His "dear sweet little Aubree" held a special place in his heart as daddy's girl and the shining light in his life. She was his "best girl," always and forever. Jason considered his children to be his most significant accomplishment and his greatest legacy. He was a larger-than-life personality and if you knew him, you couldn't help but love him (eventually).

Jason is survived by his beloved children, Ryan Robert Christian and Aubree Ann-Marie; their mother, and close companion Tara Lewis, all of Merrimack, NH. He is also survived by his sisters, Jennifer Rogers (Mark) of Centreville, VA and Jessica George (Rob) of Saugus, MA, with whom he shared a deep bond. He held a special place as entertaining uncle to Kirk, Kate, Maddie, Annabella and Maximilian, and he enjoyed his role as master to Maurice and Frankie. Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Brian and Ann-Marie Turley of Melrose, MA and his loyal companion, Sheffy. He leaves behind numerous cherished relatives, friends and players.
