Obituary

Jean (Lahiff) Leavitt, of Melrose, formerly of Somerville, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on May 12, 2005 at the age of 77. Jean was born in Somerville, raised in Belmont and was a graduate of Mt. Trinity Academy and Dana Hall College. She was a lifelong Somerville resident who loved Music and her dog Punkie. Jean was a State Committeewoman for the Republican Party for many years. Her children & grandchildren were her world and she never had a bad word to say about anyone. Jean was the beloved wife of George L. Leavitt Jr. Loving mother of George L. Big George Leavitt III & his fiance Nancy Lynch of Windham, NH, Jean E. Norton & her husband Art of Danvers, John R. Jack Leavitt & his wife Debbie of Winchester, Elizabeth M. Bauer & her husband Michael of N. Stratford, NH, Daniel M. Leavitt of Boxford, Patty A. Rosselli & her husband Scott of Melrose and Thomas D. Leavitt & his wife Leah of Marblehead. Cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday May 16th at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass at Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:30AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6PM. Burial in Puritan lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeans memory to Alzheimers Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140 or Jimmy Fund, 375 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
