Jean Sylvia (Hatch) MacDonnell, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Nov. 14, 2014 at the age of 82. Jean was born in Howland, ME, a graduate of Malden High School and went on to Secretarial School. She worked as the City Treasurer for the City of Melrose for 31 years before her retirement. Jean enjoyed knitting, hand crafts, crocheting and reading. She loved & adored spending her time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean was the loving mother of John D. MacDonnell of Rowley, Beverly A. Marenco of Melrose, Harold B. MacDonnell & his wife Aileen of Leicester and William C. MacDonnell & his wife Beth of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Amanda, Jonathan, Jaime, Robert, Kerry, Jeffrey and Henry. Devoted great grandmother of Alexandra, Donovan, Samantha, Lucas, Nora and Isla. Caring sister of Gerald Hatch of Fitchburg and the late Richard & Stephen Hatch. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, Nov. 19th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8PM. Burial will be private.
