Obituary

Jean was raised in Medford Ma. She worked as a secretary at A&P headquarters of Boston and later as a preschool teacher. Jean would go on to Volunteering for Communitas formerly known as Emarc, advocating for special needs individuals. She had many interests in life including jigsaw puzzles, cooking family recipes, the occasional trips to the Casino and socializing with friends.

Jean is survived by her husband and best friend Norman Melanson of Melrose Ma. and Daughter Robin Melanson of Reading, Ma. She is predeceased by her son Andrew "Andy" Melanson. She is very loved by her siblings Richard Caprigno of Tampa Florida, Robert Caprigno of Salem NH and Clarie (Caprigno) Fortier and her husband Thomas Fortier of Tampa Fl as well as many nieces and nephews and a close longtime family friend April Lyons of Derry NH and her two Children PJ and Abby Lyons. She was affectionally known as Nonnie.

The "family of her heart" extended beyond the traditional. Known as Mother , Auntie, Nonnie, or Best Friend to many blessed to be in her orbit, she made everyone feel like the center of her world.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A Funeral Service will take place immediately following the visitation  in the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives & Friends respectfully invited to attend

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Communitas to continue their work with Special needs individuals.
