Jean A. (Ward) Sullivan of Andover, formerly of Melrose, died at her home at the Emeritus Assisted Living Center on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the age of 98. Born in Melrose on August 3, 1913, she was raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School. She was a Massachusetts all-state fullback for the Melrose Field Hockey team and continued to play with the Greater Boston All Stars after high school. Jean worked in the Boston Navy Yard during WWII where she printed blue prints of the ships as they were being built. After the war she worked for the Sylvania Electric Company of Woburn for 35 years as an Electronic Technician. She enjoyed painting, clamming at Littleneck Beach in Ipswich with her grandfather, horseback riding, wintering in Florida for over 30 years, crocheting, sewing clothes for her grandchildren, the ocean, cutting her lawn, baking Apple Pies and playing golf until she was 90 years old. Jean was a Melrose resident for over 40 years and a member of the Maplewood Baptist Church of Malden. She was the devoted wife of the late Bernard F. Sullivan, with whom they shared 33 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Phyllis (Fielding) Morrison & her husband Wayne of Frisco, TX & James Kent of Wilmington. Cherished grandmother of Jean H. Morrison & her husband Tony Hernandez of McKinney, TX, Scot F. Morrison & his wife Courtney of Ipswich & Heather K. Wathan & her husband Derek of Lee's Summit Missouri. Great grandmother of Brogan & Halden Morrison, Aynsley, Bryn & Fynlee Morrison & Knox & Brooke Wathan. Caring sister of the late Irwin Ward, William Ward, Martha Booth, Thomas Ward, Fred Ward & his wife Eleanor of NH. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 20th from 4-8PM in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 21st at 11AM in the Maplewood Baptist Church 729 Salem St. Malden. Pastor Gary McClenthen will officiate. Relatives & friends respectfully invited.
