Jeffrey B. Lyczak, of Malden, died of cancer at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers MA on October 11, 2013 at the age of 45. Jeff was born in Riverside, NJ, and graduated from Bishop Egan High School in Fairless Hills, PA. He attended St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA, and received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating, Jeff worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital and later Nucryst Pharmaceuticals. He also taught immunology courses through Harvard University and co-edited the textbook entitled Immunology, Infection, and Immunity. Most recently he was employed as Director for Drug Discovery and Translational Research at Shire in Lexington, MA. Jeff loved to play his funky bass guitar and was in several bands in Pennsylvania, California, and Boston. He was an avid gamer and co-hosted the "Gameopolis" podcast. Jeff loved sharing good food and drinks with family and friends.
Jeff was the beloved husband of Karen Yates and loving father of two young sons. Devoted son of Bernard and Lorraine Lyczak of Morrisville, PA; cherished brother of Susan Zamell of PA and Patricia Weinberger of NJ and brother-in-law of Robert Yates of Sutton, MA and Andrew Yates of NC. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, October 20th at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose from 4:00 - 6:00PM. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 21st at the same location at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
