Jerome H. Supple passed away from cancer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas on January 16th at the age of 67. He was born in Boston, raised in Winthrop, graduated from Boston College, received his doctorate from University of New Hampshire and did his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California Berkley. Jerome served as President of Texas State University from 1989 to 2002. Prior to Texas State he had progressed through the academic ranks from chemistry faculty member to acting president of the State University of New York. Jerry enjoyed fly fishing, basketball, skiing and playing the banjo. He and his wife Catherine sang and played with the folk band Newton Street Irregulars in Texas. He was the husband of Catherine (Evans) Supple. Father of James Supple & his wife Karlyn of Brentwood NH, Andrew Supple of Greensboro NC and Paul Supple of Austin TX. Brother of Colette Maguire & her husband George of Melrose. Grandfather of Keagan Supple. Also survived by 10 nieces & nephews and 14 grand nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, January 23rd, at 11:15AM. Funeral mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral mass on Friday morning from 9:15 - 11:15AM. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Hampstead NH will take place at a later date.
