Joan Catherine (O'Brien) Squires, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home. She was 90 years old.

Joan was born in Boston in 1933, the daughter of Martin W. O'Brien and Mary B. (McGary) O'Brien. She was raised in Melrose, MA. She graduated from St. Mary of the Annunciation School in Melrose. She raised her family in Melrose, moved to Stoneham, MA with her loving son and daughter, and then returned to Melrose where she lived peacefully with her son until she passed away. Joan was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation and St. Patrick Parish in Stoneham.

Joan married the late Alfred Squires in 1953 and they raised four children together. She was the devoted mother of Edward Squires, the late Lois Squires, Catherine (Squires) Robbins and her husband, Kevin Robbins, and Susan (Squires) Symes. Proud grandmother of Jessica Symes, Laura (Robbins) Goodrich and her husband, Deryk Goodrich, Lisa (Robbins) Medellin and her husband, Christian Medellin, Diana Robbins, and Michael Robbins and his wife, Jaclyn Robbins. Loving great grandmother to Maxwell, Levi, and Easton.

Her funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose, MA. Interment, Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA. Services will be private.
