John M. Amoroso Sr. passed away at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. He was 69 years of age. John was born in Winthrop to the late Joseph & Rose (Interbartolo) Amoroso. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from Boston Technical School. Mr. Amoroso served in the US Air National Guard for 12 years as an aircraft mechanic, 2 of those years in active duty for the US Air Force in Germany during the Vietnam War. He lived in Somerville & Brockton for a few years, Melrose for 23 years and the past 6 years in Reading. John started out as an automotive mechanic, he worked as an aircraft mechanic for 12 years and then as a supervisor for B&W Press in Georgetown for 20 years. He loved to work on cars & planes, enjoyed spending summer vacations with his family at Hampton Beach, NH and was an avid Red Sox fan. John was the beloved husband of Louise M. (Santora) Amoroso. Loving father of John M. Amoroso Jr. of Reading, Michael J. Amoroso & his wife Heather of Billerica and Caryn M. Barretto & her husband Louis of Woburn. Cherished grandfather of Cayla, Cortney, Zachary & Jake. Caring brother of Michelina "Dolly" Harrington of Stoneham, Alfred J. Amoroso of Brockton and the late Anna Cultrera & Salvatore Amoroso. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday March 9th, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6PM. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
