John D. Cadigan passed away at Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home in Danvers, on July 2, 2007, he was 83. John was born in Lynn, raised in Nahant and graduated from MT St. Charles High School in Woonsocket, RI. John was a WWII Navy Air Corps Veteran, serving from 1943-1945. Mr. Cadigan lived in Malden for a few years and Melrose for over 35 years. John worked as a reporter and as editor for the Herald Record American for 35 years retiring in the 1970s. After his retirement, he worked as a security officer for the Congregational Retirement Homes in Melrose for 10 years. John was a longtime member of St. Marys Church, a member of the Polymnia Choral Society, past president of the 200 club and former secretary for the Boston Newspapermens Benevolent Association. Mr. Cadigan enjoyed his trips to Italy, France and Israel and was well known for his great sense of humor. John was the beloved husband of Helen I. (Winslow) Cadigan. Loving father of Eileen M. Glinner of Wilmington, Joan L. Purdy of Webster, John J. Cadigan of Nashua, NH, Robert T. Cadigan of Medford and Mary C. Garneau of NC. Brother of Elizabeth Robinson & Cornelia Coffey both of Nahant, Margaret Murphy of Lynn and the late Mary Hamilton, Richard & Barry Cadigan. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, his late grandson Brian Glinner, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday July 6th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs. 4-8PM. Entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.
