John Michael Carakatsane died at Melrose Wakefield Hospital April 9th at the age of 89. He was born in Lynn, raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High Class of 1930 and Northeastern Univ. Class of 1935. John lived in Melrose for 50yrs and the past 40yrs in Saugus. He worked as an electrical engineer for several local firms including Raytheon, General Electric, General Dynamics and Sylvania Corp.. John was former chairman of the Cable Television Commisssion in Saugus, a former board member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn and he volunteered at Christmas International as a host family for international students for many years. He was very active in the Odd Fellows Kearsarge Lodge in Swampscott (formerly Lynn) where he was a Past Grand Noble. John also served in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was the husband of Mary E. (Filias) Carakatsane. Father of Michael J. Carakatsane & his wife Pamela of Lynnfield, Arthur J. Carakatsane & his wife Judy of Lynnfield and William J. Carakatsane of Saugus. Sister of Christine Rassias of Maine and Sophia Carakatsane of Melrose. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thurs. April 12th at 8:30 AM. Funeral service in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 8 LaFayette St. Ipswich at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Machester-by-the-Sea.
