John C. Consolo Sr., of Melrose, died at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Melrose on Jan. 14, 2011 at the age of 90. John was born & raised in the West End of Boston. After high school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. John served in the South Pacific and was wounded in action in Guam and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, John resided in Malden for 25 years and the past 23 years in Melrose. John worked for the Post Office at the South Postal Annex for 15 years before retiring at the age of 65. He was the beloved husband of Eva (Corso) Consolo. Loving father of Marianne DAmore & her husband Bill of Wakefield, Marguerite Smith of Malden and John C. Consolo Jr. of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Marlowe, Gina, Lauren, Michael and James. Caring brother of Frank Consolo of Whitman and predeceased by 2 brothers & 4 sisters. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.
