John F. 'Jack' Crowley Jr. died after a long illness in Melrose May 6th at the age of 69. He was born in Boston, raised in West Roxbury, graduated from BC High, Northeastern University with a Civil Engineering Degree and received his masters in Engineering Management from Northeastern Univ. Jack has lived in Melrose since 1960. He worked as a Structural Engineer at Whitman & Howard in the mid 1950s building bridges. Jack worked in the computer industry most of his career working for Honeywell, Data General, Digital Equipment Corp and Sea Change Corp. from the 1960s to the 1990s. He traveled the world building manufacturing plants & corporate facilities. He spent long periods of time in Holland, Mexico, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. In the late 1990s he started working as an independent consultant and spent a year in rural China building a large semiconductor manufacturing plant. He also designed and built several custom homes on Cape Cod. Jack was a Trustee of the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, served on the building committee and was Past President of Our Lady of Nazareth Academy PTO. He was an active member of the local Boy Scout Troop 635, the Head of the Explorer Scouts where he led many mountain climbing expeditions throughout New England and was a member of the American Society of Engineers. Jack was the husband of Arlene M. (Kelley) Crowley. Father of Kathleen A. Reilly & her husband David of Andover, Eileen M. Sofka & her husband Richard of Maynard, John F. Crowley III & his wife Alissa of CO, Joseph C. Crowley & his wife Corrin of Melrose and Michael P. Crowley of Cambridge. Brother of Margaret Fitzgerald of Acton and Patricia Crowley of Dover. Grandfather of Hannah, Walker, Corey & Katie Crowley. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. May 11th at 9AM. Funeral mass in The Church of the Incarnation 425 Upham st. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 & 6-9PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
