John Jeremiah "Jack" Daley, Jr., of North Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Melrose & Malden, died at home on July 4, 2013 at the age of 83. Jack was born & raised in Malden and a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1948. He went on to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star for bravery in battle. He worked as a Melrose Firefighter for 31 years and resided in Malden & Melrose for many years and North Ft. Myers, FL since 1994. He was a former house painter and a member of St. Mary's Church & the Harold O' Young V.F.W. Post #2394 in Melrose for many years. Jack enjoyed gardening & golfing and had a "Hole in One" in 2001. He loved dogs and was an avid hockey & football fan. Jack was very proud of his Irish heritage and was just a "Wonderful Guy". He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (O'Malley) Daley for 20 years. Loving father of Janice Elks & her husband John of NV, Kathleen Cheney & her husband David of NH. Cherished grandfather of Sean, Kaitlyn, Matthew and Erica. Caring step father of John, Dennis, Kevin & Timothy Leonard and Cheryl Masiello. Brother of George "Nicky" Daley & his late wife Barbara of Chelmsford. Also survived by his loving & loyal dog "Jiggs". Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 10th at 8AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8PM.
