John P. Flynn Sr. passed away at the Togus VA Hospital in Augusta Maine, on March 12, 2008, he was 92 years of age. John was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, lived most of his life in Stoneham before moving to Londonderry, NH in 1976. He served in the US Army during WWII where he earned the Bronze Star and multiple Purple Hearts while serving as a platoon leader. After his discharge from the US Army Mr. Flynn worked as a salesman for the AT Howard Paper Company in Boston for over 25 years. John enjoyed working in his garden, his summer trips to the Maine coast, the Red Sox and Boston College Football. He was an overall "good guy" who loved his family. Mr. Flynn was the husband of Mildred (Parsons) Flynn. Father of John P. Flynn Jr. & his wife Ann of Vassalboro ME, Peter J. Flynn of Manchester, NH, Dennis P. Flynn & his wife Nancy of Weare, NH. Brother of Kathleen Martin of Melrose. Grandfather of Patrick, Melissa, Jocelyn, Kiersten & Caleigh. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, MA on Monday, March 17th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM. Burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in Londonderry, NH at a later date. Family has requested donations be made to the VA Medical Center, c/o Voluntary Services, 200 Springs Rd.
