Obituary

John "Jack" H. MacMonagle, 81, of Andover, died peacefully on February 9, 2025.

Born and raised in Melrose, Massachusetts, son of the late Evelyn and Hugh MacMonagle. Jack lived a whole and vibrant life surrounded by his family, friends, and many passions.

Jack is survived by his loving sons, Daniel MacMonagle of Stoneham and Jeffrey MacMonagle of Charlestown; his devoted long-time partner, Sandra DiVincenzo of Andover; and Sandra's daughter, Colleen, her husband, Mark Barnard, and their son, Alexander of Methuen. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Marilyn Carter and her husband, Kenneth, of Reading, and Jo-Ann Duncan of Ipswich, along with his many nieces and nephews.

As an avid golfer, Jack was a longtime member of Indian Ridge Country Club, where he thrived in both friendly competition and the clubhouse camaraderie. Whether perfecting his swing, sharing a beer at the nineteenth hole, or delivering his signature deadpan humor, he made lifelong friendships on the fairways.

Jack's humor was as sharp as his golf game—never loud or attention-seeking, but always perfectly timed. He was a master of the well-placed eye roll, the dry one-liner, and the kind of quiet remark that had you smirking hours later.

Beyond the golf course, Jack loved to read on the porch, and eagerly awaited his annual winter trips to Boca Raton, Florida and summer trips to Wells, Maine, with Sandra and her family.

All who knew him will deeply miss Jack's charm and humor.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Gately Funeral Home in Melrose.
