John N. "Jack" Madden, owner of Jack's Barber Shop, passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on December 10, 2021. He was 90 years of age. Jack was born in Beverly Farms on January 2, 1931 to the late Francis & Mary (Hallisey) Madden. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Dickinson) Madden. Beloved father Ellen Dockery of Melrose, Stephen Madden & his wife Linda of Tewksbury, Jane Lessard & her husband Richard of North Reading, Mary Madden Argenzio of Salisbury and Beth Madden of Melrose. Caring brother of Mary Madden of Beverly Farms and the late Francis Madden. Proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Jack opened and operated Jack's Towers Barber shop in Melrose for 36 years from 1964 to 2000 after he spent 8 years at his initial Greenwood location. Jack was an avid gardener his whole life and brought joy and happiness to family and friends by sharing the bounty from his many gardens. He loved traveling and cherished the many memories that he regularly shared with his family. Everyone knew Jack as such a loving person and genuinely nice guy who was always there to listen. His grandkids fondest memories were the homemade breadsticks that he loved to prepare that greeted them upon the visit to Nana and Grampy's house. He will forever be missed by so many but his kindness is engrained in all who knew him. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday December 17, 2021 from 8:30-10:00AM, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St. at 10:30AM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose..
