John G. McIntire, of Melrose, died at his home surrounded by his family on March 7th. John was born in Winchester, raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1945. He went on to earn his degree from St. Michaels College in Vermont, Class of 1953. John enjoyed a distinguished academic and athletic career playing both hockey & football at Malden Catholic and captain of the hockey team at St. Michaels College. He served in the Navy during WWII & the Army during the Korean War. John worked in Sales of fire & safety equipment for McIntire Brassworks in Cambridge for many years, was a substitute teacher at the Melrose high School and has lived in Melrose for the past 45 years. John was a member of the K of C in Melrose, the Masonic Lodge in Malden and the J.F.K. Library in Boston. He was active in both politics and civic affairs, working on Michael Dukaksis campaign and was the campaign manager for former mayor James Milano of Melrose. John was the beloved husband of Rosemary U. (Norton) McIntire for 50 years. Loving father of Maryanne Champi & her husband John of Essex, James W. McIntire & his wife Patricia of Lynnfield, Christopher E. McIntire of Melrose and the late John G. Jay McIntire. Cherished grandfather of Ryan. Ian and Brianna McIntire. Brother of Frank McIntire & his wife Dottie of Worcester and the late Mary E. Murphy. Also survived by several nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday March 10th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-7PM.
