John R. ''Melch'' Melchionno died suddenly on Thursday May 3rd at Mass. General Hospital at the age of 52. John was born in Malden, raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High Class of 1966 and has been a lifelong resident of Melrose. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After Vietnam John worked for the City of Melrose in the DPW Dept. for many years. He was an avid golfer, coached baseball for Melrose Little League and the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a member of the Harold O'Young VFW Post #2394 in Melrose. Husband of Lorraine M. (Buckley) Melchionno. Father of John Anthony McInnis of NB, John Buckley of Malden and Jeannette R. Melchionno of Melrose. Son of Joseph E. Costanza Sr. & Jeannette (Gallezzo) Costanza of Chelsea and the late Vito Melchionno. Brother of Joseph E. Costanza Jr. of Chelsea, Lynnette VonKriegenbergh of Melrose, Cheryl D'Amore of Saugus, Judith Gallant of Melrose and the late Nicholas Costanza. Grandfather of Asher, Joseph, Julya and MacKenzie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. May 5th at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM.
