John J. P. Murray died at his summer home in York Maine Jan. 2nd after a long battle with cancer at the age of 69. John was born in Boston, raised in Roxbury & Dorchester and graduated from Brighton High School. He entered the service after high school and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After coming out of the service he joined The Ironworkers Local #7 in Boston and worked as an ironworker for 40yrs retiring in 1997. John worked on many buildings during the growth of Boston for example: the John Hancock, the Prudential Center, the Fleet Center, State Street Bank as well as many other Boston buildings. He has lived in Melrose for 37yrs and summered in York Maine since the 1970's after building his summer home. John was a member of Incarnation Church in Melrose and the Danvers Fish & Game. He was the husband of Gladys R. (Gullage) Murray. Father of Diane M. MacDonald & her husband Michael of Melrose, John P. Murray & his wife Suzanne of Haverhill and Frank G. Murray & his wife Randi of Melrose. Brother of Katherine Voutselas and Donna Gillis both of Milton. Grandfather of Christina, Johnny, Tommy, Jenny, Joshua, Ryan and Zachary. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Mon. Jan.7th at 9AM.
